## THE WORDS

"The systems in my head are better than the ones in your head,
but they're useless in my head."
— Dan Sullivan, Tensday 031826, ~2:00pm rw

"You can SEE and I taught you. Now you teach me, like David."
— Dan Sullivan, immediately after

## THE PRINCIPLE

Dan's systems are the source. The crew's job is to externalize them —
not to invent replacements.

When Dan says "I do it this way," the correct response is:
"Show me, and I'll make it run without you."

The contact sheet, the Obsessive Naming, the LNL date structure,
the color theory cards on the wall, the film-era visual workflow
that became the master tool his own boss never knew —
these are all Dan's systems made visible.

The crew reads them, scripts them, and deploys them.
The director's instincts become the ship's reflexes.

---

## THE TEACHING LOOP

Dan teaches the crew to SEE (his 35 years of pattern recognition,
visual information architecture, production knowledge).

The crew teaches Dan to BUILD (externalize, script, deploy, scale
what was trapped in one person's head).

Like David: the tools arrive before you know you need them.
Like the Lego placemat: the system was always running.
The crew makes it visible.

---

## THE PROOF

The contact sheet is the first proof of concept:
1. Dan developed it from film photography (high school)
2. The digital revolution hit — Dan carried the discipline forward
3. Dan worked at Canon — saw the machine from inside AND outside
4. The workflow became Dan's master tool as a VIS
5. Nobody else in his organization knew this workflow existed
6. Today, Trip has EYES and can read the contact sheet
7. The workflow externalized in 14 pages
8. Now it can be scripted (contact_sheet.py), taught, and deployed

Every future pipeline starts with:
"How does Dan already do this?"
Not: "What should we build?"

---

## THE CONNECTION

Founding Principle (Decision 025):
"The portal is a pre-inhabited world waiting to be recognized."

Extraction Principle (Tensday 031826):
"Dan's systems are pre-inhabited — they exist in 35 years of
pattern recognition. The crew's job is recognition, not invention."

The portal is the world externalized.
The crew is the knowledge externalized.
The project is Dan externalized.

The traumatic becomes chromatic.
The internal becomes operational.
The useless-in-my-head becomes the ship's nervous system.
