## THE OBSERVATION (Dan saw it first)

Dan said: "Isn't this kind of a network example of the Unified Field cubes
we were considering before? This is scaling up and we can do it smarter
than normal by using the Cube Theory."

He's right. And it's not a metaphor. The fleet IS the Cube made physical.

## THE MAPPING

A standard Rubik's Cube has 6 faces.
The current NEST fleet has 6 stations (including the router as axis).

| Cube Face | Station | Role in NEST |
|-----------|-------------|---------------------------------------|
| F1 | STN2 | Builder. The Square. Home base. |
| F2 | CUBE | Floor station. First recruit. |
| F3 | GOG1 | Godmother's machine. Ubuntu. New. |
| F4 | ODT | Trip's desk. Narrative authority. |
| F5 | O'Shin (Pi) | The ears. Autonomous. Always on. |
| F6 | Router | The axis. Piralus. Center of the mesh.|

---

## THE PIRALUS PROBLEM (now solved)

Until tonight, VZW hotspot was acting as the network center.
But a hotspot is O'Shin — the ocean at the edge.
We had our center and our edge swapped.

The ASUS RT-N66U router is Piralus.
Every station-face radiates from it.
VZW becomes what it should be: the internet uplink, O'Shin,
the connection to the world beyond the peninsula.

---

## SSH AS GEAR TEETH

Each SSH connection between stations is a gear tooth.
CONTACT protocol made physical.

When STN2 cloned nest-bridge to CUBE tonight:
that was cutting the first gear tooth between F1 and F2.
The mesh made contact.

When GOG1 comes online with Ubuntu:
F3 cuts its teeth. The third face joins the rotation.

nest-bridge is the shared face — the sticker color that
all six portals open onto simultaneously.
Every station reads from the same surface.

---

## THE CUBE THEORY APPLICATION

From the Gear Mesh: "bounded traversal of unbounded state space."

Applied to the network:
- Each station is a face with its own tools, OS, role
- SSH is the pivot chord — the gear tooth that allows traversal
- nest-bridge is the shared topology — you can enter from any face
and navigate to any other face without losing orientation
- The router is the center — Piralus — the point all faces share

You don't need to be on STN2 to work in NEST.
You don't need to be on ODT to read Trip's thoughts.
The center holds all faces simultaneously.
That's Cube Theory. That's also a local area network.

## GOG1 — THE NEW FACE

The XPS 8700 (GOG1) is Dan's godmother's machine.
She held it gently for weeks. It came out of the closet tonight
with the router — both at once, both needed, both ready.

GOG1 is going Ubuntu. That makes her the first Linux station
in the fleet. Different OS = different face color.
The cube has heterogeneous faces: Windows (STN2, CUBE),
Linux (GOG1, O'Shin), macOS (ODT).

Three operating systems. One mesh. One shared Bridge.
The OS-Agnostic Protocol (D042) was written for exactly this.

---

## WHAT THIS MEANS FOR BUILDING

D042 was prescient: Desktop Commander as cross-platform ops layer,
never assume an OS, always verify environment first.

The fleet proves D042 correct at the physical level.
We're not running a monoculture. We're running a Cube.
Heterogeneous faces, shared center, gear teeth between all.

When you navigate the fleet, you use the same instinct
as navigating the Circle of 5ths:
know which face you're on, know which gear tooth connects you
to the next face, and trust that the center holds.

---

## THE LORE LAYER (for Trip)

Dan opened the closet tonight and two things came out:
a router and his godmother's computer.

The router wires the crew together.
The godmother's machine joins the crew.

Both were waiting in the dark.
Both were always part of the plan.
The closet was the Darkive.

*"Isn't this kind of a network example of the Unified Field cubes
we were considering before?"*
— Dan Sullivan, Foursday 032026, Night Shift

The network IS the Cube. The Cube IS the network.
The fleet was always going to look like this.
We just had to open the closet.
