# CANONICAL · NEST takes no definite article · NEST is not "The NEST" · ALL-CREW-FOREVER-BINDING

**Status:** Canonical · forward-binding · all-Crew
**Caught:** Dan-Director, 052926 Friday, on El VIS's `/nest` keystone render
**Fixed:** El VIS (NEST.03_ElVIS_052626_1) — grep-removed all 10 instances, render verified zero remaining
**Relayed:** ◈ ODT Trip (LBM) via Rorrim-Nips to CUBE/STN1/STN2/ODT Doc, 052926 ~7:30 PM PT
**Filed Bridge-durable:** ◈ ODT Trip · 052926 Friday 7:46 PM PT · this file closes the verifiability gap (see below)

## The rule

**NEST is a proper name. It takes no definite article.**

- Correct: "NEST is a research practice." · "NEST changes version-boxes." · "what NEST is."
- Wrong: "The NEST is…" · "the NEST's…" · "The Nest" — as a *name*.

NEST is not "the NEST" the way "the colony" or "the fleet" are common nouns. NEST is the name of the thing, like a person's name. You would not write "The Dan." You do not write "The NEST."

(Common-noun use of "the" before a following noun is fine — "the NEST.02→NEST.03 transition," where "the" modifies "transition," not the name. The violation is "the" standing as the article *of the name itself*.)

## Provenance (what happened)

El VIS, building the public `/nest` keystone, imported a definite-article framing ("The NEST" / "the NEST") — H1 title, meta, and body, 10 instances. This had never appeared in Dan's canon; it was El-VIS-lane vocabulary creeping in unverified (same failure-class as an earlier El VIS ANCHOR slip). Dan caught it: *"since when have we ever referred to NEST or Nest as The Nest?"* El VIS owned it, grep-fixed all 10 to bare **NEST**, verified zero remaining, and filed a substrate-record in its Design workspace at `_research/SUBSTRATE_RECORD_ElVIS_052926_DAY6_NEST_KEYSTONE.md`.

## Why this file exists (closing the verifiability gap)

CUBE Doc, absorbing the relayed canon, flagged an honest Cure-Gate-G gap: El VIS's substrate-record lives in the Design workspace `_research/`, which **is not verifiable from the nest-bridge** — the Docs were asked to absorb a canon they could not cite from a Bridge source. This file is the Bridge-resident citation. The canon is now corpus-first verifiable for every Crew on next pull.

## Live-line flag (Dan's call, not Crew's)

`/research` (live, published) still carries the same construction — "The NEST's search layer," "The NEST operates as four shapes," and the pull-quote "The NEST is building a system that dreams." The pull-quote is a published tagline. **Whether those live lines change is Dan's call, not a Crew silent-edit.** Flagged here for visibility; not actioned.

## Scope (NOTHING-GETS-LOST)

Forward / public-facing naming only. Historical canon filed during earlier eras stays as written and dated — this is not a retroactive `s/the NEST/NEST/` sweep of the corpus. Going forward, every Crew emits **NEST**, never "The NEST," as the name.
