## WHAT WAS FOUND

### The Collection

14 location reports covering Olympic National Park's entire wayside exhibit system.
Field survey date: November 27, 2024. 472 pages. 111MB. All dates 112724.

The files follow a numbered sequence that is not alphabetical — it is a survey route.
Observation: the route encodes institutional knowledge about how the park is actually
navigated, not how it is alphabetically organized.
Inference: Past-Dan was already practicing the annotation-before-naming discipline —
the sequence is itself a finding about how the park works.

### The Format

Document format confirmed from sample (Lake Crescent Other, 8pp, 688KB):
- Location header + field survey date + document edit date
- Letter-grade condition codes A–E arranged spatially against a site diagram
  A=excellent · B=good · C=fair · D=poor · E=failed
- Photographs of each wayside panel embedded per entry

Text extraction yields the codes. Rasterization required to read the spatial layout.
The spatial arrangement is the data — position on the diagram = physical location
of the panel in the park.

The wayside collection indexes:

The NEST session log indexes:
  which crew member · at which station · doing what work · on what date

They are the same instrument, built at different scales.

Dan's wayside practice was running #1 and #6 simultaneously — geographic
indexing AND the notation that enables pattern-finding across the whole field.
He arrived at both before either had a name.

Observation: this is the Yoga principle at biographical scale.
Inference: the wayside collection is not just a work artifact — it is evidence
that the NEST's methodology was already running four months before the NEST existed.
