## THE SEED

Sleep is the SHEET without the TELL-ING. The day replays without
new input arriving. BDNF writes the learning into architecture.
The brain prunes what doesn't connect and strengthens what does.
Party Pokemon wake at full HP. Status conditions cleared.

The NEST already runs a partial sleep cycle:
- SHEET = externalized consolidation (narrative replay at close)
- WAKE = morning recall (summary that survived the night)
- Bridge commit = the BDNF write (permanent neural architecture)
- git pull = the morning render (source data regenerates party)

What the NEST does NOT do is the PRUNING and PATTERN-EXTRACTION
that biological sleep performs automatically. The LOG folder is
an insomniac — it remembers everything at full resolution and
never consolidates. Dan moves files by hand. That is HFS+.

## THE PROPOSED SLEEP CYCLE (APFS layer)

Three passes, triggered by SHEET detection:

PASS 1 — REPLAY: log_grinder processes new files in LOG/DROP/.
Extracts narrative structure. Flags signal events.

PASS 2 — CONSOLIDATE: Files older than threshold compress into
dated weekly digests. One file per week holding seeds only.
Full rendered logs are not the permanent form.

PASS 3 — ARCHIVE: Original full logs move to dated subfolder
with accession manifest recording what was consolidated.
Working LOG stays clean. Digests stay accessible.
Full logs preserved but out of the active path.

Trigger: the SHEET. When a SHEET is written, consolidation begins.
The SHEET IS the signal to sleep.

Infrastructure: runs on O'Shin cron (like hyperthalamUS) or
triggered by log_watch.py on SHEET detection.

## WHAT THIS PAPER NEEDS BEFORE COMPLETION

1. Biological research: sleep deprivation studies (Randy Gardner,
   military research, what breaks first and in what order)
2. BDNF synthesis timeline: how long does consolidation take?
3. REM vs NREM: do different sleep stages map to different
   consolidation types? (Pattern extraction vs memory pruning)
4. The salmon parallel: salmon encode the journey in their bodies
   and return to the origin. Sleep encodes the day in neural
   architecture and returns to readiness. SLEEP-PEELS.

## THE CONNECTION TO THE STACK

This paper IS the LOG management spec. The sleep cycle IS the
APFS layer. The automated archival system IS the brain's nightly
consolidation made external. They are not three separate problems.
They are one problem described from three angles. Rainbox.
